People Giving Money For Taxes

In February 2021, IBISWorld published its Community Housing & Homeless Shelters in the US – Market Size 2005–2027 industry report, which states the revenue, increases, and more.

The report refers to housing and homeless shelters as temporary and emergency shelters, permanent supportive housing, transitional housing, construction and repairs, and others.

For 2021, the report estimates the community housing & homeless shelters market size at $17.4b. This means taxpayers spent over $17 billion spent JUST on housing for the homeless. This does not include services, public maintenance, healthcare, street cleaning, etc.

The majority of industry revenue comes from tax dollars from federal, state, and local government-funded homeless and housing assistance programs.

The Annualized Market Size Growth for the Community Housing & Homeless Shelters in the US between 2016–2021 is 5.2%. In other words, the market grows 5.2% each year.

The report also states the poverty rate is expected to increase in 2021, posing a potential opportunity to the industry for increased revenues because of an increase in homelessness.
